A Mindset For Success

While working with elite, professional and Olympic athletes, I’ve noticed that they have a certain mindset that helps them reach their goals. Here are the attributes that contribute to this mindset, and tips for achieving it.

1. You need to have that inner fire and a certain confidence that you will do well in your performance. Your success does not need to be measured by what others think of you but by what you think of yourself. Elite athletes believe in their dreams even in the face of criticism.

2. Be honest with yourself. Make sure that your actions and comments represent honesty and truth. Know the impact your actions and words will have on the environment and other people.

3. Be willing to sacrifice. It is easy to want to win or expect to win but few people are willing to put in the time and effort. By getting on the right program, you can train harder than your actual competition so you are 100 percent ready. You have to be willing to fail and view failures as both inconveniences and learning opportunities.

4. Be a team player. Learn how to become dependent, without losing uniqueness. Learning to take responsibility for the outcome will help you grow and work harder.

5. Be coachable. Elite athletes are always open for positive criticism and alternatives to improve their performance. The most successful individuals in life are often the most welcoming, most polite and non-judgmental with others and most critical of their own performances, as well as most eager to learn and improve.
