How to use the SkiErg for injury recovery

I viewed injuries as a gift or an opportunity to work on specific muscles of the body. Some people will use it as an excuse to sit and do nothing. However, even with an injury, there are ways to get in the gym and work around it. One of the best machines to use when injured is a Concept2 SkiErg.

IMG_8527Most people associate the SkiErg with extreme pain during and after the workout. Those intense workouts on the machine have their place, but it can also be used when injured. If you are injured, you can still use the SkiErg:

  • Use your upper body while seated on a bench
  • Isolate your core while in a seated position
  • Use one arm, if the other arm is injured
  • Use only your lower body with your hands in a fixed position

The benefits of using the SkiErg while injured are:

  •  The computer on the machine gives you measurable numbers to track progress
  • You can get a great workout in a short period of time
  • Exercises can be used as a compound movement to get blood flow to your entire body
  • You can set the damper on low (1 – 5) to make it more therapeutic.

When injured, remember not to overdo exercises. Take it slow, especially, if you have never used a SkiErg. Using the SkiErg while injured is a great opportunity to learn how to use it in a controlled way while also focusing on efficiency.

Some of my clients have purchased the SkiErg because you will get a full body workout that is impossible to get on other machines. If you are looking for a workout location that has SkiErg, use the Concept2 locater. The Concept2 locater will help you locate gyms that have the SkiErg or it will identify dealers that sell the SkiErg.
