Training Alone

Lately I have been training alone, not only when I do cardio but when I am in the gym.  I enjoy working out with other motivated individuals, but lately I think it is more effective when I work alone.  I am finding that I am less distracted and less influenced without another person nearby.

It has taken me years to train by instinct, and at first I needed to train by rules and guidelines until I learned how to read my body.  Training for the Ironman has been a new experience, but learning what my body is capable of will help determine how much I need to invest.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not bashing training with a group or partner. In fact, training with partners can enforce intensity, capacity and steadiness. Learn to enforce workout quality on yourself and use partners to help, but do not depend on them. Your work ethic must come from within.
