  • Flax seed helps to balance cholesterol levels and lowers blood pressure, but there are other benefits. Flaxseed starts breaking down once it reaches your cut. The fiber in flax seed produces changes in bacteria found in your gut that leads to a healthier bacterial population. Also, flax can help lower triglycerides in your body.  
  • Garlic is great for high blood pressure and for lowering cholesterol levels. It is also known for its natural antibiotic and antibacterial properties. Many people use it to fight the flu and treat insect bites. 
  • Garlic and onions were recently the subject of a study that showed that these two vegetables have anti-cancer effects. The study looked at 833 individuals who had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. The study then looked at 833 individuals who did not have colon cancer. What the study found is that those individuals who consumed large quantities of allium vegetables, which onions and garlics are members of, have a 79% lower risk of colorectal cancer when compared to people who consumed low quantities of these vegetables.
  • Lastly, blueberries are a great food source. The antioxidants that are packed into this fruit are amazing. Antioxidants are great in protecting cellular health and fending off disease. A recent study shows that the pigments in the blueberries can help lower a person’s risk of cardiovascular problems. The study showed that participants who ate 200 grams of blueberries per day saw significant decreases in blood pressure.
