Tips #16-30 to Help You Stay Healthy During the Holidays

Tip 16 - 30This is the second blog in the series of three on 50 Tips to Help You Stay Healthy During the Holidays.  I hope that you have begun to incorporate some of the tips into your life from the first blog that I posted a few weeks ago.  Let me know which ones you found helpful and not.

16. Don’t wait for a January 1 to starting living your New Year’s resolutions. Start now especially if they involve eating healthy or working out.
17. Be consistent and realistic with your resolutions and goals. Also, if you fall off the wagon on any given day, get back on instead of leaving them by the wayside.
18. If you are going to have a dessert, make sure you enjoy it and that it is something you really want. Also, try to eat half of it instead of the entire serving.
19. Keep extra healthy snacks around (almonds, cut up vegetables, lean protein) so that you do not over eat those holiday cookies/candy, or other items that show up at the office or at parties.
20. Give the gift of health to your loved ones and friends. Buy them a personal training session to get the on the right path in 2016.
21. Avoid drinking your calories or limit them to one or two drinks.
22. Find someone to hold you accountable during this time of year, especially if they hold you accountable for your workouts.
23. Try to maintain your current workout schedule and body weight during this time of year. Reward yourself if you do maintain and deprive yourself if you don’t.
24. Embrace the cold instead of using it for an excuse to avoid exercise or going outside for a walk.
25. Prioritize what is really important and make sure eating well and working out are within the top five priorities.
26. Use the advent calendar — Every time you open a new day, do a plank for one minute and the progression continues. You start with one minute on day one, two minutes on day two and so forth.  As you get past 5 minutes, the amount of time required can be broken up.  Don’t like planks? Do another exercise such as a burpee.
27. Dress warm to stay healthy.
28. Wash your hands more because you will be around more people than usual who most likely aren’t following these tips.
29. Tell people who usually give you cookies at this time of year, that you would prefer not to have any because of your nutritional goals. Tell them now to avoid an awkward moment when they are delivering them to you.
30. Wake up early and do cardio before eating anything. This will burn some extra fat and you start the day out more alert.
