Little things can make a difference in a day. People always tell me they don’t have time. Therefore, I’ve come up with 10 strategies to burn more calories throughout your day and stop using that excuse.

Number 1
Learn to take the stairs. Stop using the elevator in your apartment, shopping or any other opportunity. This is an easy practice to get in the habit of doing. Stop being lazy and try something new.
Number 2
Park farther away from the entrance. Everyone is looking for that perfect parking spot close to the door. Why not park as far away from the entrance as possible and get some extra walking in.
Number 3
Stand as much as possible. Standing burns way more calories than sitting. When you are socializing, get on your feet. Most people sit in front of a computer all day. Get up and move.
Number 4
Make a grid of 30 boxes and fill it out throughout the day using one exercise. For example, I love doing this with push-ups. I will do anywhere from 5-30 push-ups at a time. Once all of the boxes are full, you are done for the day. This can take you an entire day to fill out and the volume adds up. If you just do 10 push-ups at a time, you will do 300 in a day. If you do that three days a week, that’s 46,800 push-ups a year. The little things make a difference.
Number 5
Drink more water. We tell are clients to drink 90-100 ounces of water a day. This flushes out the body, makes you get out of your chair every hour to go pee and fill up your glass. This is one of the simplest ways to lose weight and you have no excuse for avoiding it.
Number 6
Before you shower, do a bodyweight ladder. You don’t need any equipment and can do this with burpees, squats, deck squats, sit ups, or push-ups. If you have time, fire out a 10-1 ladder. Otherwise, doing a one to five ladder works great. For example, if you have five minutes, do one burpee, then two, then three, all the way to five and repeat that ladder based on time.
Number 7
Have more sex! This will bring you closer to your partner, you both will enjoy it and on average you burn about 100 calories each time.
Number 8
Get to bed early and wake up earlier. Add a workout to your morning routine. It can be as easy as 15 minutes on the bike as you watch the news or five minutes of planks. If you make it a habit, it will not be a struggle to do.
Number 9
Turn off your phone at 8 pm. Most people dink around on their phone at night. Get some sleep. Your body recovers and burns calories during sleep.
Number 10
Don’t go three hours without eating something. This speeds up your metabolism and will prevent you from overeating a big meal. Try to add protein and healthy fats to each snack.
These are simple things you can apply to your everyday activities. Remember, the little things add up and make a difference in a year.
