Exercise Can Be A Family Activity

I’m always saying that the weekends should be used for family fun, rest and recovery.  So, don’t make excuses when you have to spend time with the kids.  Involve them in your workouts!  It doesn’t have to be intense, but it should be fun.

My kids are always willing to jump into a workout with me.  They see it as fun and not a burden.  Start them exercising early in life so that they see the importance of a healthy lifestyle.  I never “make” them do any exercise, but I invite them to help, and they always want to join in because they see it as fun.  Find activities that are fun for your family and lead from the front.

Today, Lolo and I took on Cully and Roza in a SkiErg, squat and push-up workout.

Workout:
20-1 skierg calories
20-1 squats
20-1 push-ups

The objective is to get through the circuit as fast as you can, but to keep the kids engaged.  This workout should be done as:  20 cals ski, 20 squats, 20 push ups, 19 cals ski, 19 squats, 19 push ups, etc.  You may have to take on most of the work versus stick with strict turns.

We made it fun and everyone had a turn.  Again, when doing a family workout it shouldn’t be complicated.  Stick with simple movements and make it a game.  For example, watch a movie and every time someone drinks something or says a specific word, the males have to do 20 push ups.  You can alternate between males and females so that everyone has a turn.  The two main goals are:  having fun as a family and exposing them to exercise as fun!
