Next time you are picking a protein source go for the salmon – you won’t regret it.

I’ve written previous blogs about salmon and the Omega-3’s it has, but there is much more to salmon than just that. Read more and find out…

Omega-3 fatty acids are great for you. It reduces blood triglycerides and harmful LDL cholesterol. They also help with hormone production, immune function, and support a healthy heart and lungs.

Salmon is also a great source of vitamin B6. This is a vitamin that is is vital to supporting biochemical reactions in the immune system. Fatty fish, such as salmon also has the following vitamin B vitamins that are critical to a healthy functioning body:

  • Vitamin B1 (thiamin): 18% of the RDI
  • Vitamin B2 (riboflavin): 29% of the RDI
  • Vitamin B3 (niacin): 50% of the RDI
  • Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid): 19% of the RDI
  • Vitamin B9 (folic acid): 7% of the RDI
  • Vitamin B12: 51% of the RDI

Salmon is a great source of vitamin D. This vitamin is essential for proper immune function. I have recently written a blog about hos this vitamin is critical to being healthy. Also, in this time of sunscreens and staying inside, many of us can suffer from vitamin D deficiency.

Salmon is also a great source of protein. It’s also lean. However, make sure you pick wisely. I would recommend you pick wild caught salmon. Make sure that it comes from a healthy source, and part of the world which doesn’t contain bad things for you. This type of protein will help your body recovery from injuries, it will protect your bones, and help maintain muscle mass during weight loss and the aging process.

Salmon is a great source of potassium. Salmon is quite high in potassium. This mineral will reduce your risk of stroke and it helps to control your blood pressure. Consuming salmon and other high-selenium seafoods have ben shown to improve blood level in people who are low in this mineral.

To not repeat myself, you may want to check on the Pat’s Gym website and find other benefits of salmon and what to look for when you’re buying it.
