I find myself going to the grocery store twice a week, often buying the same foods. I am a creature of habit and if it is not broken, why try and fix it. Healthy eating should become a common practice. There are simple rules with nutrition you should follow and I want to help you pick out the healthy food options.
When I go to the grocery store, I focus on these main items but throw in others depending on the meal.
Vegetables
I love raw vegetables that are easy to eat and don’t take much prep work. Some of my favorites include peppers, cucumbers, kale, spinach and carrots.
Fruit
Stick with high fibered, low glycemic fruits. I really enjoy apples, blueberries, avocados and pears.
Meat
Find protein packed meat. I buy salmon, steak, bacon and chicken breast. I also by sliced roasted chicken breast for on-the-go snacks.
Dairy
I use yogurt (full fat brown cow is my favorite), eggs, 2% or higher milk and cream for snacks and easy meals.
Miscellaneous
Here are some random items I buy from the grocery: almond butter, olive oil, whole-wheat tortillas, granola, butter, 80% dark chocolate, oatmeal, nuts and coffee.
The main take away is to buy organic food and make sure the items has five or less ingredients.
