Power workout

DSC09446 When I workout or I program for various athletes, I make sure that I focus on various diverse energy systems, ensuring that I am striving for functional fitness. The coaches at Pat’s Gym also focus on diverse energy systems in classes or in private sessions. Focusing on just one energy system is a sure way to create imbalances and injuries, and to not be fit overall. Therefore, this month and leading into next, I will be discussing the various energy systems and what they target. I hope this helps you understand what we do at Pat’s Gym. The first energy system that I will be focusing on is a power workout.

Power workouts involve increasing the rate of force production as you go into the workout. There are three power categories which are Litvinov conversions, cardiovascular power, and explosive power. The definitions of each are as follows:

Litvinov Conversions (split second phase of changing gears between the force component and speed component) Transition, quicker better. Like a clean and sprint. Whatever comes after the movement is the main focus. 3 min of rest between each.
Cardiovascular Power (less than 90sec that are usually repeated, max cardiovascular output) Like a 500m ski
Explosive Power (single movement, less than half a sec, low reps sets work as well, usually use a force with a speed component, like deadlifts with box jumps).

Power workouts are one of my favorite types of workouts. This workout is one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy it if you do it.
