Starting Off Eating Well in 2018

DSC01609If you’re starting off 2018, with a new year’s resolution of eating well, don’t over complicate it. It doesn’t have to involve weighing portions of food, or calculating micros and macronutrients. If you keep it simple, it’s more likely to be sustainable – so don’t over think it and just follow these rules:
Eat a variety of foods. This way you will be getting different micro – and macronutrients. With veggies go for low glycemic, but colorful ones.

Watch your portions. When going out, make sure you only need what makes you full. Most meals are supersized, so be aware. Also, make sure that you read ingredient lists because most foods have more than one serving.

Eat Plenty of Veggies – These will help keep you full, help process your food, and will help you get your daily nutritional requirements. Make sure they are colorful! Make sure they are organic. When you eat a meal, start out eating your veggies….then move on. These will help you avoid binging on the more fattening foods to come.

Stay away from refined grains and sugar.

Fats aren’t bad in moderation. Enjoy fatty fish and nuts. Stay away from too many saturated fats, and increase unsaturated fats. Stay away from trans-fats.

Eat organic, natural, range fed foods. Opt for real foods whenever possible versus supplements or bars.

Be aware of liquid calories – alcohol, juices, and sweet drinks including pop.
