The case for Omega 3’s in Fish – You’re smart!

salmon 1Are you eating fish/seafood? These three reasons should provide motivation to eat more!

A recent study showed that children who eat fish, tend to sleep better and score higher on IQ tests. The study tentatively concluded that the more fish a child ate, the fewer sleep problems he/she will have. The current conclusion is that if fish has this type of impact on children, the impact on adults should be the same.

Second, oily, darker-fleshed fish like salmon and herring, are rich in heart-healthy, polyunsaturated, omega-3 fatty acids. In addition, this type of fish is rich in protein, vitamins A, and D, as well and Vitamin B. This type of fish also has a host of minerals such as iron, iodine, selenium, and zinc.

Third, eating seafood is linked to a reduced risk of dementia-associated brain changes in people who are predisposed to the gene variation that increases the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. One study showed that if you eat one seafood meal or more a week, you would have a 47% lower likelihood of having a post-mortem diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.
