If you are truly training hard in the gym, you need to find time for bodywork and massage therapy. This needs to be a part of your training and taken seriously.
Just like eating organic and personal coaching, bodywork is expensive. Most people think they would be better spending money other ways. The truth is, if you are not willing to spend money on your health and well being, what are you willing to spend money on?
Everything adds up and to have success you can’t neglect any area of the program (training, nutrition, recovery and stress). That nagging issue can be fixed with a proper assessment and leveling out the foundation to fix the actual problem. Just like equipment in training, massage is a tool. It can find holes in your program and ultimately yourself. It can help with soreness and speed up your recovery. Most importantly, it is another chance for a true assessment from an outside source. People tend to have trouble giving ourselves a true self-assessment and tend to think they are doing better than they actually are. We become so used to our bodies that we miss things. You need to trust someone that will hold you accountable and call you out. Someone who will tell you that you need to fix your hips, that your hamstring flexibility is piss poor and causing your back to ache or someone to point out that your right shoulder is weaker and tighter than your left. You need someone that will help with your programming and work with your coach to fix the problem rather than just put a Band-Aid on it. You need a team.
I am not saying you need to get a massage every week but find the right person to give you a massage once a month. It should be treated as serious as a workout, a test and as an investment. So invest in your body and put yourself in the best possible position to succeed.
