Summer is always a month for inspiration. It’s a great month to see friends and family – which is inspiring. It’s a season to achieve fitness goals, and it’s a month to be inspired with the results. The CrossFit Games – Don’t miss them and the special events we will be having at the gym!
The CrossFit Games are truly inspirational. The Games are starting again at the end of the month, and they will be extra exciting again this year after having one of the top athletes train in our gym. We will be teaming up with some amazing brands, as well as hosting special events in Pat’s Gym throughout the week so stay tuned about the exciting opportunities. Roza will be behind the scenes again this year as a translator. We will be posting more throughout the Games, so check out our IG pages and see what the events are all about.
Dealing with the poor air quality.
With the current poor air quality, we have been taking antioxidants. Taking an antioxidant supplement can assist the body in ridding itself of free radicals. Free radicals are formed through natural human physiological processes as well as from the environment. They may be the result of diet, stress, smoking, alcohol, exercise, inflammation, drugs, or exposure to sunlight and air pollutants. Free radicals are also produced every time you breathe. While many types of free radicals can be formed, the most common in aerobic (oxygen breathing) organisms are oxygen-free radicals, often referred to as Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS).
Antioxidants can help the body deal with oxidative stress and also reduce the number of free radicals. This may help promote overall health and also aid in recovery. There are thousands of different substances that classify themselves as antioxidants. The most familiar ones are vitamin C, beta-carotene, vitamin E, coenzyme Q10, flavonoids and polyphenols, alongside many more.
The best source of antioxidants is real food or supplements made from real food. Antioxidants from real food are more bioavailable than those made in a lab. Fresh organic vegetables, fruits, herbs and spices, and organic green tea are among the best sources.
The July Monthly Challenge
The Monthly challenge is the BikeErg World Sprints, and the distance has change. It’s a virtual indoor cycling challenge modeled after the successful SkiErg World Sprints. The BikeErg World Sprints takes place between July 5 – 9, 2023. So, you have the choice of when you will do it and you have 5 days in which to do it.
These are the rules for the Challenge:
- Race 1000 meters on the Concept2 BikeErg at your club, gym, school, or home July 5-9, 2023.
- Pat will verify your results before submitting them to concept2
At Pat’s Gym, we will be doing this challenge for the entire month of July. The winners (female and male) will get the Pat’s Gym hoodie and see how you stack up against people from around the world!
