May Monthly newsletter

Wow, it’s hard to believe that nice weather is here to stay (or may I be jinxing it)! The summer is always a great time to be at Pat’s Gym. We have a lot planned, and some exciting news that we will be announcing soon. However, let’s focus on May, 2018. You want to read on to not miss anything that you will regret (and a there’s a lot to regret). So read on, and let me know of any topics you are interested in hearing about or attending………

A Healthy Pat Gilles Get Away – Pat Gilles is planning a healthy get away next February, 2019, where a group of Pat’s Gym athletes, including Pat Gilles’ Online Coaching athletes, will get away to a tropic destination. The goal of the Get Away is to have a blast with other fun Pat’s Gym athletes, stay in shape, and learn a bit more about fitness and to discuss strategies to excel in the Pat Gilles and Pat’s Gym type workouts. The dates are February 14-18th. So far about 15 athletes have indicated their interest in such an event. You definitely will have a lot of free time to catch up on books or movies you haven’t had time to read/see, or you can explore around the tropical destination. We’ve nailed down the locations (think beach!) and are negotiating with the hotels. So, contact Pat Gilles at pat@patsgym.com for more information, and to indicate your interest in going. There will be a limited number of spots so you need to act quickly.

Athlete of the Month – I bet if I asked, what is so special about May 13th, you would think about a favorite horror flick or an omen to a bad day. However, May 13th is a day we all should celebrate. It’s Mother’s Day, and this month’s athlete of the month at Pat’s Gym are all mothers who have supported us and been there when we needed them. I think most of us don’t take enough time to show our appreciation, but I’m sure that our mother’s know they are special. So we want to create a collage of mothers who work out at Pat’s Gym, or a mother of Pat’s Gym members. So if you can send us a picture, it would be great to have a mother’s day collage. While we collect the pictures, my Mom’s picture will have to suffice……

May Monthly Challenge – The May Monthly Challenge will be sprint triathlon using the concept2 equipment. It will be 500m on the SkiErg, BikeErg, and the Concept2 Row. The female and male athlete with the lowest time wins and we can all learn from them about how to be great athletes. The time includes transition times and the order has to be the same of ski, bike, and row. Try early in the month, and then again at the end of the month, to see how you improve during the month. You don’t want to miss out on this one.

April Monthly Challenge – The April Monthly Challenge took only 4 minutes, and those 4 minutes felt like an eternity. The Challenge also helped to point out a myriad of weaknesses. The score was calculated based upon total reps performed in 4 minutes of the following:

4-position KB Squat – Men use 70# kb, and women use the 40# kb. The positions were as follows in the order listed, where the butt had to touch a soft MB each time:

•      Scheme 3 + 5 + 3 + 5
•      R Front, R back, L front, L back

The winners of the challenge were Dan Jagla for men with a score of 99, and Gretchen for women with a score of 134.  Congratulations to all who took the challenge. Now those athletes have a base from which to improve upon for the next challenge.
