For Pat’s Gym, 2017 will be a better year than 2016, and 2016 was great. We have some exciting things happening that you won’t want to miss. We’ve added classes, we are participating in a Concept2 monthly challenge against teams from all over the world to see which team rows or skis as many meters as they can collectively for the month of January, added a new coach, and are very pleased with the results of the 12 Days of Christmas Monthly Competition. We’re also excited to see who will win the January Monthly Challenge, it will be the athletes (one male and one female) who can bench 100 reps in the fastest amount of time, with penalties included for every time the bar is set down.
New Classes – We have added three classes and increased the number of classes so that you have a class that fits your needs….and they are start the week of January 8:
*We will have our morning classes starting at 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. We will have evening classes at 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. This schedule applies to weekdays.
*We will be adding a gymnastics class for those of you wanting to work on strength, control and core strength. It’s a great way to learn to do those handstand push-ups that you see Pat do in all of those videos. Gymnastics classes will take place Wednesday and Friday starting at 5:00 p.m.
*We will also be adding a kettlebell class for those of you who want to improve on your efficiency with kettlebell work – power, strength, and endurance. This class will start at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday ad Thursday.
*Lastly, we will be adding a cycling class for those athletes who are preparing for triathlons, cycling, and other races, or just want more efficiency with endurance. This class will start at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

New Prices for Classes – Pat’s Gym rewards athletes who make fitness a priority and commit to it. Pat’s Gym is dropping rates for those athletes who are willing to commit to more than a month of working out. Rates for month-to-month or a 3 month commitment will increase; however, if you’re willing to commit to a 6 month or 12 month commitment, your rates will go down. Ask a coach at Pat’s Gym for more details. Class drop in fees will still be accepted, but the rate will increase to $25 per class.
Concept2 Competition for Meters – Join the Pat’s Gym team and start logging your meters. Pat’s Gym has signed up for a competition currently being offered by Concept2 starting January 1. The winning team will be a team who logs-in the most meters on either the SkiErg or Rower logged in January, 2017. There will be a matrix in the green room at Pat’s Gym on the white board where you can keep track of your meters for the month. To encourage our members to participate, the winner of the most logged meters from Pat’s Gym will get a free coaching session. Second place winner will get a free t-shirt, and third place will get a free water bottle. We will announce the winners in the February Newsletter. Remember to start tracking your meters on January 1.
A New Coach – Pat’s Gym is happy to announce that Sean Flyr is joining Pat’s Gym as a new coach. He is very experienced, and you’ve seen his friendly face around the gym. You can read more about him on the coach’s bio page at on the Pat’s Gym website.
Monthly Challenge –
The January Monthly Challenge is a 100 rep bench press at your bodyweight for males and at 70% for females. Every time you rack the bar, you will have a penalty of 40 calories on the bike or 400 meter on the rower or the SkiErg. This one is tough, but let’s see who has the strongest pecks and will to suffer!
The December Monthly challenge was the “12 Days of Christmas.” It was a tough one and the times reflected that. The 12 Days of Christmas Challenge involved the following:
1 Body Weight Clean and Jerk (females half bodyweight)
2 Body Weight Deadlift males, Bodyweight for females
3 Pull ups
4 Box Jumps Males 20”
5 Burpee pull ups
6 Weighted Walking Lunges (each side) (Men use 30# dumbbells and Females use 20#)
7 Burpees
8 KBS (Men use 55# and Females use 35#)
9 Deck squats
10 Push Ups
11 KTE
120 calorie bike
The winners of the December Challenge are Gretchen with a time of 28:29.9, and Mike with a time of 34:38. The coach with the fastest time is Coach Jacob with a time of 32:45.
