Well, summer is finally here! At Pat’s Gym we’re excited about it and Wow, it’s hard to believe that nice weather is here to stay (or may I be jinxing it)! The summer is always a great time to be at Pat’s Gym. We have a lot planned, and some exciting news that we will be announcing soon. However, let’s focus on May, 2018. You want to read on to not miss anything that you will regret (and a there’s a lot to regret). So read on, and let me know of any topics you are interested in hearing about or attending………

A Healthy Pat Gilles Get Away – Pat Gilles is planning a healthy get away next February, 2019, where a group of Pat’s Gym athletes, will get away to a tropic destination. The goal of this tropical Get Away Destination Vacation is to have a blast with other fun Pat’s Gym athletes, stay in shape, and learn a bit more about fitness and to discuss strategies to excel in the Pat Gilles and Pat’s Gym type workouts. The dates are February 14-18th. So far about 17 athletes have indicated their interest in such an event, and half of those have placed a deposit to reserve their spot. You definitely will have a lot of free time to catch up on books or movies or you can explore around the tropical destination. There is great shopping in San Juan, and great hiking in the tropical Hugo forest. If you’re interested, contact Pat Gilles at pat@patsgym.com for more information, and to indicate your interest in going. There will be a limited number of spots so you need to act quickly.

Workout at Breeze Stadium for a Great Cause with Pat Gilles – Pat Gilles, Alliant Energy, Findorff, Lululemon and Heritage Tavern are all putting on a group workout at Breeze Stadium where all donations will be provided to a local worthy charity. The Workout Anywhere/Anytime will take place at Breeze Stadium on July 21 at 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Come ready to win prizes provided by local businesses, and to get in a great sweat for local charities including Centro Hispano. We will be bringing in kids supported by local charities to show them that they can stay fit during the summer without having to have a membership to a local gym. It’s a great way to support local charities, and to have fun

Athlete of the Month – Pat and Roza Gilles, the owners of Pat’s Gym, are an inspiration and set the standard for athletes at Pat’s Gym. They can always be seen working out together and pushing each other to excel. Pat started the gym about 14 years ago, and has grown it into what it is today. When Roza showed up at Pat’s Gym, she was immediately impressed not only by the drive of Pat’s Gym, but also the unique space that Pat had created. In the past 3 years, they have taken the gym to a new level. Roza focuses on assisting athletes who come into the gym, making sure the gym functions properly, and has taken social media/photography for the gym to a different level. Pat and Roza will be celebrating their second wedding anniversary this month, and Pat has a fun anniversary workout planned to bond their relationship. Stay tuned for more adventures from Pat and Roza for the next few decades. Not only are their fitness routines inspirational, but their relationship is to be admired. Here’s wishing Pat and Roza a great 50+ years together, and taking fitness to the next level.

Pat’s Gym Monthly Challenges – Each Month at Pat’s Gym we have a Monthly Challenge which helps our athletes identify weaknesses and is a great way for our athletes to compete against one another. June’s Monthly Challenge is a fun one, and will take less than 15mins. May’s Monthly Challenge was a great way to start off the summer.

June Monthly Challenge – This challenge will test your power and determine how well you can control your mind. It requires efficiency and breathing control. Try it, and see where you can improve! June’s Monthly Challenge involves:

1-4min ladder burpee box jumps 20” box for women and a 24” box for men – the highest score wins and is based upon the total number of burpee box jumps you can do in the allotted time:

30sec off between sets of the ladder
Looks like this:
1min max burpee box jumps (need to get full extension at the top landing, standing up, or coming down)
30sec rest
2min max burpee box jumps
30sec rest
3min max burpee box jumps
30sec rest
4min max burpee box jumps

May Monthly Challenge – The May Monthly Challenge was a sprint triathlon using the Concept2 equipment. Each athlete had to complete 500m on the SkiErg, BikeErg, and the Concept2 Row. The winner of the sprint triathlon was the female and male athlete with the lowest time. We had a lot of impressive times, but the winners for males Dan Jagla and Nick Balazs with a tied time of 4:01 and Katie Hurtis with a time of 4:31. The participation was great, and we’re excited for the June Monthly Challenge.
